Elbow bursitis occurs when the fluid-filled sacs (bursa) that protect tendons become irritated. Bursitis is most common in the elbow. It can cause swelling and pain in the elbow. Elbow bursitis most commonly occurs after repetitive motions. It is also common among athletes. Treatment can include rest, anti-inflammatory medication, ice, and stretching. Outpatient treatments include rest, ice, and elevation. Possible treatments include anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroids, and physical therapy.
